Sunflower Seeds (Black) are typically used to feed horses, black oil sunflower seeds contain high levels of protein. Black oil sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E and linoleic acid and provide a good source of fibre. Horses benefit from its high fiber content. It can also be a high source of energy and put a rich dark shine on a horse’s coat.
Turmeric is a delightfully scented spice with a bright yellow orange colour. It is known for it’s anti-inflammatory qualities along with aiding the liver, arthritis, some cancers, gastric disorders and itchy skin conditions.
Research suggests feeding with some freshly ground black pepper and a little Linseed (Flax) Oil for better absorption.
Valerian is most useful in helping the uptight horse, and when used over a period of time, it can help with excitability, nervousness and stress. It has the effect of allowing the horse to relax his whole body and may also be beneficial in horses prone to tying-up.
